Fendi: 4 Spring-Summer 2020 Peekaboos To Love

The name given to one of Fendi’s signature it-bags, the Peekaboo, was first spotted on supermodels like Anja Rubik and Lara Stone when they carried it during the Spring-Summer 2009 runway show. The bag was an immediate hit, identified by its genius construction of two halves separated by a stiff partition in the middle, furnished with a single top handle and twist locks on both sides. One of the locks was meant to be left opened, creating a U-shaped (or V-shaped, depending on the bag’s material) pattern that served as the surprise element, revealing the upper portion of the central partition (often decorated with monograms or embellishments) for an eye-catching ‘peek’ into the bag.

Over the years, the Peekaboo has definitely evolved. It’s no longer limited to a single design just meant for the ladies, and you will find them in numerous variations like the Peekaboo Click (the clutch version) and Peekaboo X-Lite, along with bigger silhouettes found in the mens’ collection.

Seasonal interpretations like the ones from Spring-Summer 2020 are equally exciting, coming in handcrafted leather-interlaced versions and pieces in woven raffia that demonstrate the immense craftwork at Fendi ateliers in Italy. The Peekaboo of today comes in multiple sizes as well, starting with the miniature Peekaboo Iconic XS, before going all the way up to the Peekaboo Iconic Medium.

For something in-between, go for the Peekaboo Iconic Mini that measures 23 cm wide and 18 cm high. You can consider the one in raffia (SGD5350) or the silk-printed leather (SGD5950) decorated with a leather floral inlay, both part of the current line-up that’s perfect for the everyday.

Fancy something a little bigger that’s great for casual days? Opt for the Peekaboo X-Lite Medium (SGD5490), a sizeable tote that’s wider and taller at 30 cm by 25 cm. You will notice that the X-Lite comes with a slight twist, featuring a single compartment instead of two and paired with a thicker-than-average canvas shoulder strap that gives it a more casual edge over the classic Peekaboo Iconic bags.

The fourth bag is coined the Peekaboo Iconic Essential (SGD8290), with the key highlight being the laser-cut Fendi lettering made of buttery soft brown leather. The leather is supported with white canvas, forming a lightweight carryall (or modern-day briefcase, if you like) that’s part of the current Fendi menswear collection.

The entire Peekaboo family isn’t just limited to the four designs featured above, but you can take this as a general guide of some of the Spring-Summer 2020 pieces which are currently available in Singapore.
