Together, they are a disaster. Presenting the F/W10 Tod’s Fashion Tote, a serious and sensible all-leather tote that’s more boardroom than boardwalk. And as Jessica Alba has proven, pairing such a tote with a frilly ruffled dress just doesn’t seem to work. Still, it is her golden ~~orbs~~ smile that ultimately steals the show, looking stunning with perfectly sun-kissed skin.

And if you’re keen on checking out the tote, it is now available at their stores at both Paragon and Takashimaya Department Store, where it retails for SGD2010 in Singapore.

Reed Krakoff Boxer II Alligator Tote

I’m officially captivated by the F/W10 Reed Krakoff Boxer II Alligator Tote, a boxy delight composed of felt, leather and exotic alligator. New to Net-A-Porter, Reed Krakoff is also the creative force behind Coach, which is why I’m very pleased how his own eponymous label turned out. Interestingly enough, without resorting to cheap tricks, his label is one that’s clean and streamlined with an almost European sensibility.

As wide as a Birkin40, the Boxer II measures 41.25 cm across by 32.5 cm, the perfect size for both men and women. I’m also loving how it looks, neutral enough to be carried by both men and women for work and play. The only drawback? The price of the tote which comes in at USD6900 (or around SGD9300 based on today’s exchange rate).

Louis Vuitton Core Values: Ali Hewson & Bono

Just yesterday, I was having a conversation with some marketing personnel from a luxury brand, explaining how I believe the concept of having a romantic back story was important to any brand. One that explains the illustrious history and detailed nuances of the brand’s DNA. Building a solid back story will form the basis for a complete brand experience, one of the pillars of building brand loyalty.

If you do not have a back story worth flogging to death, or if you have already done so, you do the next best thing. You create another back story, one with a new purpose. And in the case of Louis Vuitton’s latest installment of Core Values (which highlights monogrammed bags and luggage) which features Ali Hewson and Bono, you take them to the dark continent and slap on the tagline ‘Every Journey Began In Africa’.

And to bring the message home, you make sure you have suitable complementary merchandise. In this case, a Masai-inspired bag charm (EUR350) specially created for the campaign, with the aforementioned tagline in full view. Look closely at the ad again and you’ll see it hanging from Ali’s duffle just beside her hand.

I’m sold. Are you?

Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Wilshire GM

And the deluge continues. Not an actual flood, but a literal flooding of new bags into the market courtesy of Louis Vuitton. Their formulaic success is such. Take a basic bag shape, slap it with coated canvas, make it into different sizes and price them very affordably. There was the Neverfull, the Delightful, and now may I present the new Wilshire collection.

Formerly only available in Monogram Vernis, Louis Vuitton has just launched them in Monogram Canvas, a collection of 3 totes that range from 30 cm across (PM size) to 46 cm (GM size). Each Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Wilshire also comes with protective bottom studs and is lined with microfibre on the inside.

I’m not really feeling this collection (it is just too pedestrian for me) but for those who are keen, the collection is now available for purchase at Louis Vuitton boutiques island wide and is priced at SGD1230, SGD1480 and SGD1730 respectively.

Mulberry Tristan Envelope

I’ve been lusting over the Mulberry Tristan Envelope for the longest time, so when it arrived in time from London for the Mulberry F/W10 party at Tanjong Beach Club I was doubly thrilled. Retailing for GBP495 (or around SGD1030 or so), don’t be deceived by its flat-looking facade. Measuring 36 cm across by 26.5 cm, it can definitely pack it in, due in part to the fact that the leather, while thick and grained, is also very soft and supple.

I brought it along to the Mulberry party, and in it were my trusty Lumix GF1, agenda, mobile phones and load of other essentials. And not once did anyone say it was stuffed and chunky. Recently I’ve been using it for both my MacBook Pro and iPad and I’m happy to report that it worked wonderfully as well.

So thrilled am I about the Tristan Envelope that I went ahead and decided to get the Mulberry Tristan Briefcase as well, which should be arriving early next week. At first glance it does resemble the Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Briefcase VN, but thankfully it does not cost as much. Retailing for GBP895 (or just under SGD1850), I’m confident the briefcase (which measures 40 cm by 32 cm) will come in really useful for times when I need to be all dressed up for formal meet-ups.

Chanel Classic Flap (Marina Bay Sands Exclusive)

The 3rd and final post regarding exclusives for the new Chanel boutique that’s opening tomorrow at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is regarding this pair of beauties: the Chanel Classic Flap With Charms and the Chanel Classic Flap With Chain And Charms.

Besides being limited editions, the exclusives also feature little charms that were all Gabrielle Chanel’s favourites, which include the lion (she was born a Leo), the clover (she was superstitious and loved collecting lucky charms) and the pearl (a classic at Chanel).

And even though they are priced at SGD6280 and SGD6980 respectively (slightly pricer than the regular Classic Flap), I’ll bet you my last dollar that they will be sold out in no time at all.

Chanel Exotic Alligator Classic Flap (Marina Bay Sands Exclusive)

When I received the email from Chanel and opened the file, the following happened. My jaw dropped, suffered a minor seizure and I took a good 10 minutes to compose myself. Presenting the Chanel Exotic Alligator Classic Flap, the Marina Bay Sands exclusive that will be launched when the store finally opens this weekend. Along with the nail polishes, this gorgeous Classic Flap will be sold this Sunday and is priced at SGD120 short of SGD50,000.

In other words, SGD49,880.

Quantities of each colour (3 in all available for the ones in exotic alligator) are limited to single digits, which makes this truly desirable. If I had the spare change, I’ll definitely get one, put it on a pedestal and stare at it all day long. Does anyone else out there feel the same?
