Released late last year, the Belvedere is part of Goyard’s new Core collection as part of their ongoing efforts to refresh/renew its bag designs, which also includes new models like the Grenadines and the Marquises, which will hopefully be covered later in another post.

Basically a very small saddle-style bag that’s in season at the moment, it comes in 3 sizes (GM, MM and PM) and starts from around USD1300 a piece. The one pictured above is the one in PM and I’m guessing the GM should comfortably fit the 13″ MBP.

The nearest boutique to get yourself some Goyard in person would be Hong Kong, and hopefully before the year is over (or early next), we’ll get our own boutique in Singapore as well. Watch this space for more updates.

Officially known as the Chanel Paris-Shanghai Take Away Bag, it came out last year and retailed for USD7500 a piece. Modelled after the humble Chinese takeout box and made famous after Lady Gaga was snapped carrying one, it sold out soon after.

Thing is, I don’t hate it (I even posted an image of it on Facebook back in August 2010). And seeing in twice more in person just made me appreciate how Karl Lagerfeld dares to push the boundaries. I’m just wondering: would it have worked if a brand less famous did the same, or did it work for Chanel because well, it is Chanel?

Having just spotted one at Net-A-Porter, however, brought the longing for it back just as quickly. Retailing for GBP212.77, I would have gotten it if not for the fact that I’m extremely confused by the sizing chart (US, UK, European, huh?). Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky in Hong Kong.

The word plissé refers to the fabric (or in this case leather) that’s given a puckered or pleated finish, and in the case of all 3 brands I just mentioned, I noticed that Burberry’s pleated leather is also the softest of the lot, along with pleats that are most closely placed together.

And since there are too many different plissé leather bags and SLGs in Burberry’s current F/W10 collection, here are 3 of my personal favourites. First up, the Burberry Didley, a hobo that’s available in White in Singapore. Retailing for SGD2395, you can wear this 35 cm by 33 cm bag three different ways; over the shoulder, across your body or just resting in the crook of your arm.

Another bag that I like is the Burberry Hadwin (shown above, SGD2095), a pleated leather sling bag that is fun and sassy, and great for a night out on the town. Measuring 34 cm by 14 cm, you can use the stiff rolled leather handle (with three ornamental brass plaques) to smack your roving boyfriend’s head when he ogles the girl at the next table too much.

The one in Oyster Pink is saccharine sweet too, don’t you think?

Last but not least, here’s the one I like the most. Looks odd, I know, but there’s something about the pleated rectangular shape, stud detailing and short handles that I like. I just can’t put my finger on it.

Why would any woman who loves her man want to torment him this way?

There are, however, exceptions to the rule. She needs to try on some clothes in the fitting room. She is struggling with the little one. She fractured her wrist fighting over the cashmere shawl that was 90% off.

And that’s it.

Really.

The funny thing is, I know what’s coming next. ‘But my bag is heavy, and my shoulders are aching,’ she whines. Which brings me to my next point. It is the weekend, and you’re out with your man in town, shopping, dining and maybe catching a movie after that.

Why the hell do you need to bring all your personal belongings (and then some) to town with you?

So what’s the solution? You downsize. The smaller the bag is, the less you can bring out, which in turn makes the bag so much lighter and it won’t end up in his arms. Get it?

It’s really simple. You won’t have an excuse ever again, he won’t feel bad not being a gentleman and most importantly, I can stop cringing whenever I’m in town.

And men, if you’re reading this, you can save yourselves as well. Just make sure you get her the smallest (yet most minimally functional) bag you can find and give it to her for Christmas.

Then there’s the whole graphic print issue. On one hand I adore the print, all bright and snazzy, but on the other hand, is this something most guys will be able to accept?

Besides the combination shown above, Prada at ION Orchard has 3 more in different colourways, each brighter and more colourful than the next. Still, for those looking for something that hugs close to the body, which can fit an iPad and some other loose bits, this is something worth looking into, especially since it only costs SGD850, which for a runway item isn’t that pricey at all.

Which really isn’t so bad. Simply because while the others were loud and really cool from a fashion point of view, I would never have had the guts to trot down Orchard Road with a pink Le Pliage covered in bones. Retailing for EUR190 (around SGD344 or so) at Colette now, the price isn’t that bad either.

If, however, tire prints aren’t your thing, check out this one Jeremy Scott made for Love magazine which is priced at just EUR150.

Because as much as we would like to think that our tiny red dot is fashion-forward, we don’t have a single H&M anywhere on the island. Yet.

But that’s not the point of this post. In fact, I don’t even know why I am even doing this post, besides the fact that the video I posted here is pretty surreal and quite amusing.

‘I want Lanvin, not diamonds.’ Yup, surreal and amusing. Because what woman in her right mind will turn down diamonds for H&M?

And the two bags in the collection are hideous. There, I said it.
