Bagaholicboy Muses #429 – Have A Prosperous Dragon Lunar New Year!

Once again, it’s that time of the year when Chinese all over the world celebrate the Lunar New Year, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers a very happy and prosperous Year of the Dragon!

And while all of you will be out having reunion dinners and visiting friends and family, here are some important tips that I hope you guys will find useful as far as your bags are concerned.

Don’t forget to remove any stray Mandarin oranges from your pricey leather bags at the end of each day. Because no one can help you if the oranges go soggy and mouldy on the inside of your bag. I would also like to stress the importance of keeping your red packets separately. If they get damp or wet, colour transfer may occur and we all know how awful that would be.

Last but not least, leather bags and kids with oily fingers equals impending disaster. You know what happens next.

One last thing, if you’re bored and stuck at home waiting for relatives or friends to come over, you can always download Mulberry’s dragon template and have fun colouring. Might as well do something fun, right?

Another year has come and gone, and all of us (myself included) have a lot to be thankful for. Some of you are perhaps still doing your last minute Christmas shopping, others cooking festive meals for family and friends. Bagaholicboy News #213 – Get ‘Greeted’ By The A&F Boys Till Opening Day!

The countdown has begun. For those of you who passed by the Abercrombie & Fitch store at Knightsbridge today, you would have spotted the shirtless greeters, made up of A&F employees from around the world specially flown in for the opening on 15 December 2011, as well as 5 from Singapore making up the 30-strong contingent of hard pecs and washboard abs.

What’s more, the boys will be standing in front of the store every day from 1pm to 7 in the evening till opening day, and all of you are encouraged to head on down and take a photo, or 10, with them.

We all know that shopping online can bring many benefits, the main reason of course being the amount of savings to be had. Still, before you proceed to your checkout, here’s something all of you should know. There are differences in pricing even when shopping online, which could be due to fluctuations in the exchange rate as well as differing shipping costs. In other words, do your research before you hit the checkout button for the best possible deal.

Here’s a quick comparison based on the ever-popular Alexa, and how much it will cost you if you were to buy it from Mulberry online (UK), Net-A-Porter (UK), SSENSE (Canada) and Eranzi (Malaysia). The bag in question is the standard Alexa in buffalo leather, and final prices include shipping to Singapore and 7% GST.

Over at Mulberry and Net-A-Porter (based in the UK), the Alexa sells for GBP795 a pop. Shipping is little bit more over at Mulberry (GBP28 versus GBP21), so after shipping and 7% GST, they will cost you SGD1789 and SGD1773 respectively.

On SSENSE (headquartered in Canada), the bag sells for USD1200, with shipping to Singapore at USD50. After GST, it will set you back by SGD1759. At Eranzi (based in Malaysia), the bag costs SGD1643, inclusive of free international shipping, but with GST tagged on, it will still cost you SGD1758.

It may not seem like a lot, but if you do your research religiously for all your online purchases in a year you’ll definitely save a bundle. Maybe not enough for another bag, but maybe a SLG. Don’t forget to look out for promos as well, which include free shipping, discount codes and special offers which would make a huge difference to the final price you pay.

And in case anyone is wondering, the Alexa costs SGD1960 locally, SGD202 more than the next most expensive option. Yes, it does cost more, but it is a small price to pay for someone to attend to you in person, answer your queries and provide immediate after sales service.

Bagaholicboy Muses #426 – 10 Must-Buy Pieces From The H&M + Versace Collection!

Having had a first-hand, up-close look at the soon-to-be-released H&M + Versace collection, I’m happy to report the following. The collection will be launched first in Asia on 17 November 2011 at 8 in the morning in Singapore, which only means you’ll have to start queuing from the day before. Each person in the queue will be allotted 10 minutes to shop, and they will only be allowed to buy one piece per design from the collection.

And as far as the collection proper is concerned, I’m quite pleased with the quality and the finishing of it all. The leather pieces in the collection are made of genuine leather (from Anna Della Russo’s studded dress right down to the pink patent mini bags).

The mens shirts (the ones in pink, blue and black with the tipped collar detailing) are not bad either, as are the accessories from belts to cuffs and rings to scarves for both the guys and the gals. I could go on and on, but in interest of keeping everything short and sweet (trust me, I tend to drivel on sometimes), here are my 10 must-buy pieces from the collaboration collection.

Love the detailing, especially the buttons on this bomber jacket (SGD249). Not as hard to carry off as previously thought, and much nicer than the all-pink ensemble. Also look for a wool trench with leather sleeves, which wasn’t featured in the look book that’s pretty dapper.

Loving the geometric shirt (SGD79.90) as well, the cap (though you need to look like Edison Chen to pull it off), the cuff and the belt (surprisingly not as blinding in person) as well as the cotton trunks which are fun and whimsical.

Ladies, you’re spoilt for choice, but as much as I love the ADR studded leather dress, it is not something everyone can successfully pull off without looking like a dominatrix. Pieces to check out include the black silk dresses, the metallic-mesh dresses in gold and silver, as well as the bright and colourful leggings (shown above).

Other pieces include the leather bracelet with floral embellishments, as well as the single sling mini-bags. Also look for a gold necklace with embellishments in the form of a sword and a shield which is very Givenchy, if you ask me.

Bagaholicboy Muses #424 – Paris Fashion Week: Chanel, Dior & Louis Vuitton

Having just landed in Singapore this morning, the last 8 days or so in Paris have been magical as far as I’m concerned, catching runway presentations, going for re-sees and attending parties.

More importantly, I got the chance to see next season’s bags up close and personal, each collection more amazing and beautiful than the next. Here are some of my favourite pieces from Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton.

Held in the largest of all venues in Paris, the Chanel runway presentation always promises to be a show stopper, and the S/S12 collection proved to be no different. Held within the Grand Palais, the glass-domed roof was the perfect setting for the huge underwater scene in pristine white, complete with giant corals and sea shells.

Aptly, the bags that came out one after another each had some related theme, from clutches festooned with pearls in different hues to a small sling bag with a mermaid detailed on it. Other pieces included one resembling jellyfish, while another mimicked the clam shell.

Most interesting was the one that looked like the conch, and from what I’ve heard, it appears to be an actual clutch that should be included in next season’s offerings.

As far as Dior is concerned, Bill Gaytten decided not to rock the boat when it came to the bags, and instead chose to reinvent certain pieces for the S/S12 collection. Held in a huge tent on the grounds of Musée Rodin, he sent out Lady Dior bags with weaved leather bodies (yes, it does look look like rattan, doesn’t it?), complete with handles and side panels in luscious exotic skins.

Extremely lightweight (I had the chance to get up close and personal with them), the amount of workmanship that went into each piece was amazing. Other pieces I adored included the Lady Dior in patchwork tweed, and the Miss Dior in tweed with unfinished edges.

Opening to gasps from the audience was the S/S12 Louis Vuitton presentation, the all-white revolving carousel complete with models dressed in the prettiest of pastels. And if this were to be Marc Jacobs’ swansong collection, it was also certainly one of his best to date.

From the translucent bags that came with their own individual pouches to the drool-worthy handbags in delectable exotics, everything looked good enough to eat. Most surprising were the patent leather market baskets, that look to be perfect doubling up as next summer’s picnic bags. Available in two sizes and in a variety of pastel hues, they also came with their own interior lining that will prevent anything from falling out.

By the time you read this post I’ll probably be on my way to the airport, all psyched up for the long flight to Paris. And even though I’ve already been to Paris twice, the image above kinda sums up how I feel about the city. I’ve seen enough of it to know what it is, yet I surely haven’t seen enough to truly understand each and every nuance-y bit about the city of romance.

Thus with this trip I resolved to do the following, including spending more time walking and exploring the city, in-between the runway shows, re-sees and parties that promise to be both hectic and an eye-opener for me. All of which I’m looking forward to, of course.

Inspired by the fact that I’ve been seeing so much red lately (the recent Emmys were awash with celebrities dressed in red, for example), I’ve come up with a selection of bags and accessories in juicy reds and luscious pinks, which are much better alternatives unless you want to risk walking around looking like a giant red packet. A perennial favourite that’s even stronger this season, these colours are definitely staples are far as a woman’s wardrobe is concerned.

Bagaholicboy Muses #421 – Bags In Ads (F/W11)

With most (if not all) of you flipping through magazines or coming across F/W11 ads posted online, I thought it was time to do this post, which will pretty much tell you what bags are featured in it, along with the retail prices in SGD which I hope will be useful as you plan, plot and scheme your way towards your new bag purchase.

First up, the Louis Vuitton Lockit Voyage Pulsion which should be available in Singapore in the coming month. Priced at SGD7950 for the larger version (shown above), as well as SGD4500 for the smaller, stuffed-toy looking one.

Next, the new Dior Miss Dior which most of you should be familiar with by now. This one (available in 4 variations based on size and length of chain), is made of quilted leather and adorned with all manner of finery retails from SGD4500 and up.

One of my F/W11 favourites from Bottega Veneta, the Lido in patchwork intrecciato nappa that retails for SGD7980. Pricey, yes, but isn’t she a beauty?

I could go on and on about the oversized clutches from F/W11 Miu Miu, but I shan’t. From SGD2560 and up.

From Balenciaga comes this unusual painted paisley clutch, available in different colour combinations and priced at SGD2830 each.
