Yes, that’s a chunky sneaker all right, one of the new offerings from Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2018 collection that should be in stores locally by now. Look closely though, and you’ll spot a slight difference. As opposed to having full calfskin (or lambskin) uppers, it’s actually cut out in certain parts and replaced with PVC. Yes, PVC.

And while it isn’t exactly revolutionary (yes, it has been done before), it is definitely on trend, and because Chanel is already offering see-through PVC flap bags, totes and even raincoats, why not offer sneakers with PVC panels as well? Priced at SGD1610 a pair, you’ll just have to make sure the socks you pair them with are presentable as well.
