Bottega Veneta: Evolution of the Knot

The Knot has come a long way, ever since Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director Tomas Maier added the knot clasp to the Italian label’s box clutch back in 2001. Not only does it serve a functional purpose, the chic knot has helped the boxy clutch become one of Bottega Veneta’s most recognised icons in the world of bags.

And while the Knot has seen multiple variations over the past 16 years, from the long to the wide, from the slim and to the compact, in a myriad of colours, embellishments and materials, it has never gone beyond its typical box clutch silhouette. All that changed in 2017, with the label introducing the City Knot in Spring-Summer 2017, and 2 others, the Olimpia Knot and Knot Clutch for Fall 2017, with all 3 bearing the signature Knot clasp.

Having gotten up close and personal with the bags multiple times to prep for this story, here’s what you should know about these 3 new additions to the Knot family.

First, we’ve got the Lizard & Nappa City Knot Bag (this bag is SGD10,170, the bags start from SGD5800) which comes in a fresh silhouette that’s perfect for the contemporary woman. Available in an exotic lizard trim on a leather body (among 2 other variations on offer) for Fall 2017, the bag opens to 3 roomy inner compartments and can be carried via its strap that’s adjustable to two lengths. Functional and versatile, it is also a pretty face that can be easily identified by its schoolboy satchel-like style that gives it a cool, urban vibe.

Next there’s the Knot Clutch (SGD4490), a much taller (and wider) take on its older sister, the Knot. And while they are both still clutches, the Knot Clutch is more rectangular, resulting in a completely different silhouette that’s also roomier on the inside. Furnished with dual compartments separated by a middle zip compartment, the Knot Clutch is perfect for the one who appreciates space and style on a bag that also comes with its very sling that’s also removable if needed be.

The Knot gets its very own seasonal update and for Fall 2017 it comes adorned with Swarovski crystals. A sparkly number that promises not to outshine its owner because Bottega Veneta doesn’t do garish, it’s perfect for the evening cocktail party or a gala dinner event. Priced at the SGD8270 (the Knot starts from SGD2280), it’s an iconic classic that comes with all the potential of being an heirloom treasure if you take good care of it.

Last but by no means least, there’s the Olimpia Knot (starts from SGD5080) that’s also an all-new addition to the family. A union of both the Knot and the Olimpia bags, it is essentially a shoulder that’s a great everyday bag due to its pair of of sizeable compartments and a zip compartment. Measuring 27 cm by 16 cm and available in everything from Bottega Veneta’s signature quilted weave in calfskin, fabric and even exotic skins, this one is frankly as elegant as it gets.

With so many Knot(s) now available for your choosing, you’ll definitely be all knotted up with anxiety as you decide which one is the best for you. Will it be the forever classic Knot? The larger Knot Clutch? The satchel-like City Knot that’s cooler than cool or the sensibly-sized Olimpia Knot that will hold enough for a day at work? Now available at Bottega Veneta boutiques in ION Orchard and Marina Bay Sands, the only way for you to find out is to head down and try them all out for yourself.
