Hermès ‘On A Summer Day’ Constance III

A bag that needs no introduction, the Constance is in my opinion considered one of the 4 great beauties of French luxury house Hermès, along with sisters Birkin, Kelly and Lindy. And like great beauties who are also always the most sought after, there’s no denying the sheer amount of admirers the Constance has, especially when she’s available in the colour and size everybody wants (think Epsom in Rouge Casaque with gold hardware, for example).

But today’s post on the Constance isn’t about the most covetable classics, it’s this new darling that’s part of their Spring-Summer 2017 collection. A collaboration with artist Nigel Peake, his design, ‘On A Summer Day‘ is printed onto a Constance III which sports white leather, resulting in a bag that’s quite literally, perfect for the season.

An urban, geometrical interpretation that’s big on architectural details (look closely and you’ll make out buildings and trees), the same print also appears on selected RTW and silk pieces, but it’s this bag that’s definitely the head-turner.

Priced at SGD21,400, here’s some bag trivia for those still not in the know. Created in 1969 by designer  Catherine Chaillet who christened it Constance after her daughter who was born in the same year. Requiring up to 18 hours to craft each bag, it also features the special H clasp (also the first bag to feature this clasp) where the horizontal bar lifts up to release the flap.
