Céline: Christmas 2015 Gift Guide

Yes, it’s November, which also means the countdown to 2016 has started, along with everything great that’s associated with the end of the year, including the New Year countdown, huge epicurean feasts and of course, Christmas!

And with Christmas comes the season of gift giving, be it for your loved ones or for yourself. Or both, which is what I do anyway. First get something nice for everyone that matters, then get something even nicer for yourself for even putting that aforementioned list together, shopping for it and then making sure everything is beautifully wrapped before it is given away. No mean feat if you ask me.

With that comes the first of my gift guides, which you’ll be seeing more and more of as the season nears (PR peeps, if you are reading this, please start sending out your seasonal gift guides). First up? Céline, of course, one of the few designer brands that come in white boxes you can’t go wrong with.

Which brings us to the Céline Classic (SGD5000, shown above), one of the first bags released by Creative Director Phoebe Philo when she joined the French luxury house in 2008. Still loved and much sought after till this day, the one that’s now available in Singapore comes in burgundy box calfskin with gold hardware, a sight for sore eyes, guaranteed to drop the receiver’s jaw and of course, great for upcoming festivities.

For those ranked a tad lower on the gift-giving list but no less important, might I suggest the Céline Trapeze, another stunner of a bag still on many a wish list. Priced at SGD3600, you can pick up this multicolour beauty in Black/Blue/White that’s also part of Céline’s early spring collection.

Last but not least, SLGs (or small leather goods for those of you not attuned into bagspeak). From top to bottom we’ve got a small zipped wallet (SGD680), the long calf pocket wallet (SGD1050), and my favourite, the drummed calf large flap wallet (SGD950), all useful, all appropriately-hued for the season. And because this is just a tiny bit of what’s available now in Singapore, I would advise to you head down personally to Celine boutiques at Marina Bay Sands or Ngee Ann City to shop to your heart’s content. For your loved ones, of course.

Hi BB, I used to own a Celine Mini but I sold it when it started to turn soft and shapeless. I still love the Mini even after all these years but the thought of the bag going soft and shapeless is really scary. After all, I love it for its shape and structure.

Besides the Palmelato leather (which is no longer available), do you know whether there is now any version of the Mini Luggage that could hold its shape and structure well after years of use? I can tolerate a bit of slouching but it has to at least be able to retain its distinct shape and stand by itself. Any thoughts?

There should be Luggage bags that come in grained leather, much stiffer and will be able to hold its shape much longer for sure. But leather being leather, it will get ‘soft’ over time with years of use.
