After that iconic red box, the adorable baby panther (that only seems to appear once a year over Christmas), precious jewellery and luxurious watches, Cartier is going for gold as far as fine leather goods are concerned, more specifically with the new C de Cartier collection that’s now available in Singapore. Having already previewed it over on Instagram (an illustrated montage by Jae Suk Kim and a mood shot by yours truly), here’s the post proper for everything C de Cartier.
Decidedly feminine on the outside with its soft rounded edges that’s almost rubenesque, the inside is made for the modern woman on the go, made up of 3 different compartments that even the most OCD of you will find useful. Giving nothing away when it’s not in use, it opens up the moment you pop your hand in, be it into the roomy front or back compartments (one of which comes with a patch pocket that will fit the biggest of smartphones), or the middle compartment that’s anchored with a zipper where you’ll place important bits like your wallet or car keys.
With 2 additional smaller patch pockets in the middle compartment (good for name cards, discount/VIP cards and the like), even the smaller C de Cartier (yes, it comes in two sizes) will hold an iPad Mini with ease.
Measuring 34 cm by 24 cm and 41 cm by 26.5 cm for sizes Small and Medium respectively, there are subtle differences regarding the make for both sizes. The one in Small comes with a shoulder sling and shorter top handles, while the larger Medium has no sling but a longer drop which should allow you to wear the bag over the shoulder. Which also means the size you’ll get will be mostly dictated by what you intend to do with it, be it for work or for play.
Now for the best part. Available in a beautiful variety of colours inspired by fine stones (an obvious link given its heritage as a fine jeweller), they are priced between SGD2850 and SGD3150, a reasonable amount given how expensive designer leather bags have become recently. In other words, the next time you’re at Cartier checking out the LOVE bracelet or the Tank watch, don’t forget to give these leather beauties a once-over as well.
