Rimowa Bossa Nova Collection

rimowa_bossa-nova-collection2 Before I start on Rimowa’s new Bossa Nova collection, here’s the backstory on my love affair with Rimowa. Travelling as often as I do (2014 was crazy, remember?), I’ve relied heavily on my Classic Flight pieces. And they have performed superbly for many years, except for 2 occasions which I attributed to mishandling (lost a wheel on the way back from Paris) and abuse (one of my locks was damaged when I arrived in Hong Kong). Still, those were easy fixes, and both time the parts were replaced for free at the store with no questions asked.

In other words, I would be content even if I don’t use another brand for the rest of my life, because as far as luggages go, Rimowa is really it. And you don’t have to just take my word for it; most (if not all) of the press corp also use Rimowa for the same reasons, and sometimes we joke that it’s the standard issue for all fashion journalists in Singapore.

Ok, back to the post proper. If your favourite colour is that deep rich Amazonian green, you’re in luck with Rimowa’s Bossa Nova, a full suite of cases that were inspired by artist and environmentalist Margaret Mee’s works featuring the Amazon’s exotic botanicals. Featuring a beauty case, two carry-on cabins and 4 check-in luggages in varying sizes, they come either in tone-on-tone full green or green with beige leather detailing on the trim for a vibe that’s very ‘jungle exploration’.

Available in Singapore at all 3 Rimowa retail stores (Mandarin Gallery, Marina Bay Sands and Millenia Walk) from 1 June 2015, here’s a final piece of advice for those looking for new pieces of luggage. While buying a cheaper piece of luggage makes sense when you’re trying to stretch your holiday budget, in the long run it actually makes more sense to invest in something you can use for years and years to come.

Rimowa is worth every cent. I wouldn’t use anything from the Salsa range as check-in baggage though. Seen one too many cracked corners to justify the price tag. I use the Salsa Deluxe Multi-wheel for carry on and a Topas Stealth for check-in. The Topas Stealth dents and scratches GORGEOUSLY. Aesthetics aside, the hardiness of an aluminium case outweighs the cons of having a heavier empty bag, compared to the polycarbonate Salsa.
