H&M + Maison Martin Margiela: The Launch In New York City

Fashionable New York descended on 5 Beekman Street last night to celebrate the launch of H&M’s latest collaboration, the #MargielawithHM collection, an event that saw over 1000 guests including celebrities, models, media and bloggers from around the world in attendance.

Spread over 9 levels at this historical architectural gem that will be developed into a hotel soon, it was the perfect setting for the collab, ‘falling apart’ with peeling walls, cracked plaster and worn-down floorboards.

And if that wasn’t enough of a sensory overload, each floor had something different to offer, from experimental dance performances to art installations that all depicted part of the collab; dancers wore selected pieces, while others were the focus of various installations. And if that still wasn’t enough, thumping music and the ever-flowing champagne kept spirits high, as did gawking at the various celebrities that came to the launch, from Julianne Moore and Joan Smalls to Kanye West, Helena Christensen and Chace Crawford (whom I stalked for a while).

But the highlight of the night for many had to be the pop-up store, which was naturally on the highest level of the building. Seeing celebrities queue (oh yes, they did) was a thrill, as was the ample selection of collab pieces which meant everyone got to indulge.

And if you’re in the mood to indulge too, the collaboration launches worldwide in H&M stores and online for selected countries on 15 November, but till that happens, do look out for more updates here.
