Hermès Dogon
It’s said that at Hermès everything made is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside, and with the Hermès Dogon it certainly shows. Not a new release, but rather a classic piece that comes out in new colours every season, the Dogon is a curiosity in its own right.
Slightly larger (and a tad taller) than your regular long wallet, the 20 cm by 12.5 cm beauty has an unusual clasp. Rather than a snap button closure, or even an all-around zip, it’s actually a piece of leather than goes into a round palladium tab that ‘secures’ the wallet. Embossed on it are the words ‘Hermès’ and ‘Paris’ in really tiny font, subtle and unobtrusive at best.
A simply styled piece, on the inside you’ll find generously-sized compartments, 2 to be exact, along with 2 slip pockets that are great for drivers’ licenses or credit cards.
There’s an additional surprise contained within as well, a removable change purse that comes with slots and pockets on both sides, which I’m told you could use separately. Beautifully detailed down to the last hand-sewn stitch, it’s also one of those pieces you can use as a clutch or as a travel wallet, one which you can fit your passport into with ease.
Retailing for SGD2600 in Singapore, the one in gold Togo calfskin is currently my favourite. Then of course, there’s the one in black Togo that will be a joy to use and match with most any outfit. It also comes in colours like Etoupe, Red and Blue Jean; you just need to be at the right store at the right time because I hear these babies often fly off the shelves as soon as they land. And really, it’s not hard to see why.

Love. It’s really understated.
Classic… (FB)
agreed… it is such a classic… i have always hunted for one of these babies with the right color for so long and i finally got one last january in iris… such a deep deep blue violet that just amazingly gorgeous… saving up for an evelyne that will match it!
any other colours available in sg now?
Yes, beautiful piece of art, very functional too. I got one in black colour.
However, the palladium snap is easily scratched and if you are very particular about having your piece of art scratched, don’t purchase it!
I had a friend buy this for me from Paris and I had the last one they had in town. It is my favourite thus far! It is really really worth it.
Your friend got lucky, it is almost always sold out. Send me a snapshot for Mailbag? Thanks!
