Proenza Schouler ‘X’

For months I’ve been intrigued by this S/S12 bag from Proenza Schouler, wondering what it’s made of and how it works, seeing how the top handle and shoulder sling seem to be disparately placed. Having nothing to work with besides this image which is from the look book, it finally made sense when I chanced upon it online for sale via Colette.

Simply referred to as ‘bag’ on the site (I’m calling it ‘X’ till I find out otherwise), it’s made of calfskin and interestingly, has the same print as some of the RTW pieces in the collection. You can use it as a shoulder bag (by way of its sling), or carry it via its top handles, with 2 zips allowing easy access no matter which way you’re carrying it, or which way it’s up.

The 32 cm by 20 cm bag also has a zip pocket  behind, great for small bits and personals. Retailing for EUR1165 online, it’s definitely one of the more interesting pieces this season. Besides being dual-purpose, it looks different from every angle, something you’ll see if you check it out at Colette.

Question is, will it find fans, given its quirky make and unusual design, with people’s penchant for all things safe and classic?

Or will they get it simply because it is one of those unique, one-of-a-kind statement bags?
