You could be forgiven if you thought this was perhaps something from The Row or Victoria Beckham at first glance, which was what I also thought when I first laid eyes on it. Fortunately, it’s not, and I’ll explain why in a while.
Meet the Smythson Antonia North/South Bag, which positively emanates a distinct air of sophisticated elegance and refined grace. A new addition to their S/S12 catalogue, I love its old world details, from its vintage frame closure to the thick rolled leather handle, along with just the right amount of restrained nuances in the form of gold-tone hardware that adds to the bag beautifully.
Measuring 32 cm by 29.5 cm, the bag may be old world on the outside but that’s turned upside down on the inside. Besides being lined in satin, you’ll also find ruched pockets, a zip compartment, as well as another padded compartment where your iPad or Kindle will be snug and safe. There’s also an additional shoulder strap, which will take it from handbag to sling bag faster than you can say Victoria Beckham five times.
Now for the ‘fortunately’ bit. Because it’s not from The Row or Victoria Beckham, you’ll only have to fork out GBP995 (just under SGD2000 after conversion) for this well-balanced beauty, which is a pretty good deal for something of such pedigree.
And I’ll bet you you’ll be one of the few people in Singapore with very same bag, which is always a good thing. Check it out online at Smythson, where they also carry the Antonia in the Medium (GBP950) or the longer East-West (GBP895) variations.
