Bagaholicboy News #198 – Chanel Revises Prices Again
Less than a year ago, I remember doing a post on Chanel’s increment that saw prices for its Classic Flap in caviar leather going up. Today I was informed that Chanel has increased the prices again with effect from 1 May 2011, which saw an average increase of SGD800 for each size.
In other words, Medium is now SGD5990, Jumbo is now SGD6620 and the Maxi is now SGD7230 for the Classic Flap. For the 2.55 Reissue it is the same price: SGD5990 for the Small (225), SGD6620 for the Medium (226) and SGD7230 for the Large (227).
With the revision, it also means that prices for both the Classic Flap and 2.55 Reissue models are now on par, and is only in effect for classic pieces/colours and does not affect the seasonal releases.
The price increment also applies internationally. With effect from tomorrow, a Jumbo will cost GBP2750 (up from GBP2355) in the UK, while in Paris the Jumbo will now cost EUR3200 (up from EUR2700). In the US, the Jumbo will retail for USD4300 (up from USD3700).
Now go forth and lament. And start saving all over again.

when you say medium, are you referring to the original 2.55 size? i went to the MBS outlet on 1 May and was told that the original size is 5990 and the medium size is 6620.

Yes, for the CF in Medium it is now SGD5990.
the 2.55 Reissue and the Classic Flap sizes are different so don’t be confused! a Medium(226) 2.55 and Medium(M/L) CF would be totally different price.

Anything in black is always safe, and very classic. Or try those in cream or grey, very nice as well.
What’s more important is getting the right size that will work best for your build and lifestyle.

The quality is compromised? Why is that so? They’ve been making them pretty much the same since Day 1.
have to agree with Jas that their quality of Chanel now isn’t as good as compared to the pass.

That is crazy! Another price increase?! Chanel is now becoming on par with Hermes, but the quality is no where near as good!
From the rates they keep increasing, when will I ever save enough to buy their GST??

Actually you’re right. My Mum was just telling me how her Jumbo is worth more than what she paid for it 2 years ago.
Last June or so, I was contemplating if I should get the Classic Flap in M/L size, which cost $4200 or so (somewhere around there la). I decided eventually to use that money on my girl’s education. Then come July, price increase.
Followed by another November (am I right?). Now even the medium cost almost $6000, I supposed I can never ever own a Chanel anymore.. Sigh… I guess this is what Karl wants? That medium income people like me can never have a piece of them?
A few years ago, I had to think twice before I finally splurged on my maxi quilted lambskin bag because I couldn’t justify the price. And now, I have to pay SGD1400 more for the same bag?! This is just insane. I guess I am lucky that I am not so into Chanel.
I have to agree that the quality of branded items are not as good as before. It’s the same for all brands even Hermes. It’s just sad.
I will just stick to the orange world.
When you say “does not affect the seasonal releases”, did you mean seasonal releases are not affected by the price hike? I was just at the MBS store and the seasonal classic flaps are also priced at the new higher prices.
What the?! I just helped my friends buy 2 in Paris, on 26 April. Just a few days shy of the price increase! Looks like I should have bought myself one too?
I’m glad for the increase though, I was asked to pay GST at the SG airport. Now this news will make my girlfriends feel so much better.

I have to say I quit Chanel because of this. I feel it makes fools of consumers. I understand inflation but this looks just like greed. I do have enough chanels mainly reissues, flaps and Mademoiselle so bye bye!

I don’t really get your question, especially the strap bit. But yes, prices are the same regardless of the colour of the hardware.

So glad I bot the double flap in Paris last month, paid 4K after VAT refunds etc.
i just got a maxi double flap in black at usd4000 last week, which is more than sgd2000 cheaper than what you hv to pay here in spore.
so glad i got one early this year too… damn should have bought more as investments… better returns than stocks… haha…

From what I saw from the online prices, Chanel has once again increased their classic range in 2012. Now the medium/large cost 3100 euros!
From a basic forex exchange calculation, buying it in US is cheaper than Paris??
