The Good, The Bag And The Ugly #55 – Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Sherwood PM

December 17, 2010   |   23 Comments

I like most Monogram Vernis bags in general (think Alma, Roxbury Drive and Rodeo Drive for example), the glossy, shiny, patented embossed leather  that’s especially stunning in the right colours. And even though it is harder to maintain especially in our humidity, the pretty sheen more than makes up for it.

But when bags like the Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Sherwood PM get launched (USD1300 for the PM, USD1695 for the GM), I’m stumped. Yes, I like the fact that it comes without a shred of vachetta leather (a bane especially when it patinas unevenly). And I do think the shape is rather nice, but really, that’s about it.

The one thing I don’t get (and can’t accept) is the fact that it comes with shoulder straps that seem way too long. Assuming you tote this over your shoulder, wouldn’t there be a huge gap in between your lower arm and your body? And wouldn’t this drop also make it hard for you to reach into the bag whenever you need something? In other words, don’t the proportions look off to you?

I would have preferred shorter handles on the Monogram Vernis Sherwood, which would make it less awkward looking and a definite hit with ladies of leisure who’d use it for chi-chi tea parties or gala dinners.

What do you think?
