Hermès Birkin Club
Presenting the Hermès Birkin Club (SGD14,500), the reinterpreted Birkin that will make its debut in the Spring-Summer 2011 Womens Hermès collection. The funny thing is, I’m not exactly sure if this is a stud or a dud. Yes it is a Birkin, yes it does come with strips of exotic lizard skin, and yes no matter how much it costs it will still be the most desirable bag around.
But try as I might, whenever I look at it all I see is something that Tod’s does perennially anyway. Or is it simply this colour combination that’s just too sporty for a Birkin (if there is even such a thing in the first place), or am I just getting old and become too conservative at the same time?
You tell me.

to me, it’s more like a Mon Monogram…
Hmm.. It kinda looks sporty? Not really the usual style no? (FB)
lacoste inspired. from the new designer.
I think the S/S11 collection was still done by Jean Paul Gaultier. Or did I get it wrong?
definitely a new direction for the house. it is quite obvious that hermes is trying to go mainstream (despite how contradictory the price is) when it tries to include more sportswear and opening to the china market and of course employing a lacoste designer.
definitely a nay. yes, the colour combination does look sporty, not sure if it’s a good thing though. still prefer the classic birkin.
Super YAY….!! I love the casual look… (FB)
bit too trendy for the price of a classic holy grail.
I agree with the majority. The classic birkins had a look that pretty much screams class. This one just seems like it doesn’t really know what it wants to be…
Its nice.. But a classic is a classic.
hmm… this one no likey… it doesnt suit a classic birkin… and it reminds me of goyard and lv… if the exotic skin is used as the clasp then mayyyyyyybe…
Stick on the Star of David and it’ll become the Flag of Israel Hermes Birkin.
i prefer the look on hermes jypsiere or its garden totes…
hmm I don’t know if I like this, I’ll always prefer the classic birkin.
great blog!
I think a Birkin should maintain its “dignity” as the most coveted bag and retain its classic look. This looks a little odd. Sporty yet classic… no no… I am a traditionalist!
honestly.. i think it’s all about saving odd cut out bits of leather. There are actually 5 pieces of leather that makes up the front/back when previously it was 1 full piece. It’s clever actually and it carries the Hermes price tag… however, for the purist, this is certainly not the bag.
Looks bad on a Birkin…
I definitely get a circa 2007 Louis Vuitton LV Cup collection vibe here, with the colour combo. I don’t think its ugly, but it’s definitely not top choice for a Birkin. Much less if I have 14K to spare for a bag for the tennis lessons I just signed for.
if i were a tai tai, i would applaud hermes for finally answering our prayers for a birkin gym bag.
the hoi polloi are simply jealous.
H penetrating a different market – for young daughters of socialites?
i really want one of these…
