Swatch New Gent Collection

Every since I was a wee lad, I’ve been obsessed with things. I would go through phases like girls go through their quest for the perfect foundation. Or boyfriend, for the matter. There was a Madonna phase, where I collected anything and everything that had her name on it, from CD singles to POS materials. And now it is all about bags, which I’d admit quite happily has been my longest ongoing obsession to date. But before bags or Madonna, I had a Swatch phase.

I was still in secondary school, and it was an expensive habit to have, collecting limited editions like the Easter Egg (came in the cutest yellow egg-shaped tin), Marilyn & Bengal and a couple of prized regular pieces like Yuri and One Million People. At one time my collection numbered over a hundred pieces, spending every last bit of my allowance on any new pieces I could find.

Gradually (like all phases would), I grew out of it. One by one the pieces got sold or given away, though I”m still holding onto a couple for nostalgia’s sake. The funny thing was, I could never wear any of my regular Swatch watches, since they were all measured just 34 mm across, which looked tiny on my wrist. Which is why I’m kinda thrilled that they have just launched the Swatch New Gent collection with faces that are now 41 mm in diameter.

Priced at SGD99 each, the New Gent sports a date/time window, matte silicone straps and comes in 10 different colours, including my personal favourite, Petrol Rebel, which has been officially added to my X’mas wish list.
