Bagaholicboy Profiles #25 – Meet Lady Dior
The queen of Sex And The City, Sarah Jessica Parker, has one.
Datuk Michelle Yeoh has one as well.
But did you know the Lady Dior was originally created specially for the Princess of Wales herself, Lady Diana? In 1985, LVMH and Christian Dior hosted Lady Diana in an inauguration dinner for Paul Cezanne’s exhibition in Paris, and the then mayor’s wife (Madame Bernadette Chirac) asked Dior to create an exclusive gift for Diana. Designers at Dior decided on combining their signature Cannage pattern and the letters from their lucky charms jewellery, and the Lady Dior was born.
All the press were present when she returned to Great Britain with her new Dior bag. Soon images of her and her Lady Dior appeared in all magazines in the UK and the rest, as they say, is history.
And as iconic bags go, being frequently reinterpreted on the runways like the S/S11 collection (shown above) just means two things. The house of Christian Dior is keen to keep the spirit and memory of Lady Diana alive, and it also gives fans much to lust over whenever new interpretations of the Lady Dior are launched season after season.
However, for purists who prefer the original, the classic Lady Dior is still available in 4 different sizes in either matte lambskin or patent calfskin (in a wide variety of colours and finishes no less), and retails for SGD2600, SGD3800, SGD4200 and SGD4500 for sizes small, medium, large and extra-large respectively.
And in true Bagaholicboy spirit, I must say this. The Lady Dior is fiercely protective of its possessions and you may get zipper burns whenever you dip in for your essentials. Still it is a minor inconvenience especially when faced with such a gorgeous and iconic classic that’s just wee off limits to prying hands.

I’ve got it in patent blue! Yes I do agree my fingers hurt whenever I try to fish something out of the bag, and I’m so afraid my ultimate dior wallet will be scratched by the zip.

I couldn’t agree more. I got scratches all over my delicate wallet from the zipper. Nevertheless, I love Lady Dior.
LOL! Like I’ve said, this is just a minor inconvenience when faced with such a beauty. If you own a Speedy25 or any other small bag with a top zip you’ll pretty much have the same issue too.

had same zipper issue with LV pont neuf thus had to get rid of it.

I’m thinking of a Lady Dior but question is I am torn between the classic red or black.
I am 1.6m tall and slightly on the plump size, would a medium size looks ok on me? And SHW or GHW? Am getting the patent for easy maintenanace.
I also have the intention to buy a Chanel classic flap in black caviar leather, should I get jumbo or medium and GHW or SHW, can help me on this?

I reckon a Lady Dior is one of the most elegantly poised bag out there. I have the new shimmer tweet one… The boutique assistant told me it was a limited edition which turned out to be a lie but I love it anyways!

Hi Bagaholicboy, I need your opinion to this matter, I am planning to buy Lady Dior in patent leather, but I’m confused should I choose black or beige?
Also, I know this sounds ‘so yesterday’, but I need a new tote bag for travel since I don’t have any (keep buying top handle bags!), I’m confused with the small Burberry Nova Check tote with zip and long strap, or Neverfull MM in Damier Ebene? Really appreciate your help! Thanks!
Easy! Lady Dior? Get it in Black. Definitely more stunning.
As for the tote that you’ll be using for travel, get the one with the zip. Best to have a bag that you can secure your precious belongings in, especially when you’re overseas.
