Bagaholicboy Muses #216 – The Big 3 Of Paris

October 11, 2010   |   10 Comments

It could be a combination of factors (bag fatigue, or maybe just the lack of interest in Paris Fashion Week on my part), but strangely nothing seemed to jump out and scream at me this season. Brands I was expecting great things (in this case, bags) from strangely disappointed, while others behaved like one-trick ponies and merely recycled whatever they did the season before. And while last season it was very easy to come up with 5 runway collections that I really liked, this time around I struggled, and came up with just 3.

Not that it is a bad thing. It just means less work for me come S/S11. But I jest.

Chanel, as always, put up a spectacular show, with a multitude of bag styles as diverse as the runway pieces that were shown in Paris. I’m not saying however that all were truly magnifique, but at least there was enough variety to suit every palate. Interesting pieces included the book clutch as well as the mini 2.55 tweed clutch.

My vote for truly gorgeous had to be these quilted lambskin 2.55 clutches with rolled top flaps that give you another option of holding it.

Over at Hermès, we saw the usual reinterpretated Kelly, this time as wicker baskets that could double up as picnic baskets (again, I’m just jesting). Another interesting piece was the mini Birkin that was attached to a twirled leather bracelet, which was baffling. Who wants to walk around with a Birkin hanging from their wrist anyway? Regardless it was a show filled with familiar favourites and perhaps a first for the bag world, a Kelly in transparent alligator. Or was it a Birkin in croc?

A big surprise for me came from Valentino with their shoulder bags from their S/S11 collection. Not exactly a new runway phenomenon, but interesting enough to warrant a place in my personal top 3. I especially like the ones with the additional grip handle on the front, which does indeed help one feel more secure when handling this delicate darling.

No Paris Fashion Week experience is complete without Louis Vuitton, and I certainly had a field day with their bags, including my personal favourite of the lot which are shown above. Definitely no fan favourites, but isn’t that the point of fashion anyway?

A notable mention? Céline of course. While not exactly showing familiar shapes that become every fashionista’s de rigueur for seasons past, at least they look interesting enough to warrant a closer look. And if I’m right, they’ll become huge hits in their own right in no time to come.

Now we wait…
