Bagaholicboy Muses #215 – The Big 3 Of Milan
Last season I liked 5 different collections out of many that were showcased in Milan. This season, however, not so much. Besides the bags from the Spring-Summer 2011 Womens Fendi collection that were hands-down winners in my book, here are the other 3 from Milan that piqued my interest and caught my eye. Tomas Maier did show many monochromatic pieces for his S/S11 collection which included loose-fitting dresses and slouchy bags, but the ones that I like include the exotic clutches in classic shapes, as well as the reinterpreted iconic Knot, looking more stunning than usual.
It was all sex at Gucci as usual, as Frida Giannini pulled out all the stops and made her Spring-Summer 2010 Womens Gucci collection her most glamourous yet. Tinged with a Moroccan sensibility, satchels, shoulder bags and totes in familiar shapes came down the runway in exotic skins trimmed with braided leather detailing. Particularly stunning were the shimmering metallic clutches that look like better executed variations of Louis Vuitton’s African Queen clutches from S/S09.
Last but not least, Prada. Oh Miuccia, whatever will we do with you? Giant front clasps resembling parrot beaks were on almost every single bag that came down the runway. Clutches to totes, coupled with the cha-cha-cha embroidered dresses and swirly details, gave the entire collection a very Carmen Miranda-esque vibe. Not the most interesting of the 3 collections, but definitely worth a second look.
So that’s it then, my top 3 picks from Milan, along with Fendi, of course. Which of the 4 collections do you like the most, or did nothing here pique your interest? Let me know.

My favourite bag from SS2011 so far is the Gucci black bamboo leather bag! And I’m hardly a fan of Gucci.
Looking forward to Paris Fashion Week!
Gucci’s worst season ever… sorry but its a fashion show, not curtain showcase… all these tassel is killing me
You are every designer’s worst nightmare! LOL!
Prada designs look good. Simple, understated yet elegant.
The new knot clutches look like the ham my family had last christmas.
LOL! You had shiny ham?
haha. Maybe the ham was straight out of the fridge ? The black one is still fine, but the brown one is questionable at best. I’m craving log cake and turkey all of a sudden.
must… have… the… knot!!!!!!
the gucci design (the right down corner) one does resemble birkin a bit is it?
To be fair the Birkin-esque shape has been around with many other brands for a while, and way back then it was a pretty common shape and style for many brands, not just Hermès.
BV is the safest choice.
Gucci… eeem look like a mixture of a bit of here n there. Can see the shadow of Marcie & Birkin.
Prada is simple, not really interesting.
LOVE Fendi’s bag collection this season…just beautiful. Had high expectations for Prada, but the bags/clothes are so meh. I mean fine, look at the entire collection, it’s so cerebral. You can analyze the references for days, but it’s not really what you’d buy. The last thing I’d buy is a dress with Curious George as the main print.
I love love love the black knot one!!
How can I get that blue prada? I didn’t see that in the stores. Does anyone know???
Do you mean the tote? It is not out yet in stores, stay tuned for my upcoming post on the S/S11 Prada bags for the ladies.
I love the simple shapes. I have to have that blue bag… what other colors did they show it in? When is the S/S 11 delivery? Love the patterned canvas also. Got a patterned canvas tote this year! Love it!
When can I get that blue prada???
If you are in Singapore, start checking with Prada. The S/S11 collection has started to arrive, so it should be anytime soon.
And check out the post below, there is one in Camel that looks similar in shape and will retail for SGD3810.
