Dior 3D

August 24, 2010

As far as bags go, I think I may have found my holy grail, my ‘IT’ bag of the season, the one ‘bag’ to rule them all. And while I may change my mind down the road, this particular bag will be not be easily forgotten. Seen on the arms of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who is very loyal to all brands French by the way, is the F/W10 Dior 3D.

The concept is not new; a simple classically-shaped handbag with a fold-over flap that can be carried over the shoulder. Céline had a bestseller with their Classic Box Bag, and many other brands are following suit with similar designs. What is different however is the way John Galliano chose to jazz it up with his own input, giving the familiar an unusual new look.

From the double-flap detail to the chunky (but not overly massive) bevelled clasp detail on the front, from the detailed shoulder strap with all the buckle details, it is one handsome bag. And for F/W10, there will be at least 6 different variations, including the ones in smooth calf leather (shown above in Petal Pink), exotic skins (croc, python and lizard) and one more in short plush fur. Price notwithstanding, it is truly one gorgeous bag and a guaranteed heirloom piece for generations to come.
