Fall-Winter 2010 Mens Prada Press Presentation

posted in Apparel And Footwear, Duffles And Weekenders, Fall-Winter 2010, Prada on July 2, 2010   |   4 Comments

Another dream came true for me today when I was allowed a sneak peek into upcoming collections for Prada, Miu Miu, Car Shoe and Church’s at the Prada Group’s press office this afternoon. A privilege that’s usually only accorded to fashion editors and stylists, I still can’t get over the fact that I too get first dibs on what’s coming up in the upcoming season. This is not however my first press presentation for F/W10, I’ve also seen collections from Bottega Veneta, Gucci (it was on the same day as the great flood in Orchard Road), Loewe (in Taipei) and Valentino.

Regardless of how many I attend however, each experience is one that I’ll always cherish. How else am I going to have a close-up look that will hopefully translate into posts that say more than my usual ‘this is nice and you should buy’ one liners? But before I start emoting more and digress further, let’s go back to the post at hand.

See the geometric trench coat with the double collar and protruding zip pockets that’s shown above? Guess what, I had a chance to wear it for a good five minutes and frankly, it looked much better on me than on the model. Miuccia Prada’s flashback to the 70s, the attention to detail on this piece is amazing and for a moment I imagined myself wearing it to Paris Fashion Week in September.

A boy can dream, can’t he?

Something else I learned today, the material you see used on the trench coat here is not leather. It ain’t rubber or plastic either. It’s actually laminated jersey, created specially just for Prada. Soft and supple, it felt exactly like calf leather but without the weight and the density that comes with using animal leathers. The sleeves on the trench coat (along with many other pieces in the collection) are also made much longer to give the ripple effect on the forearm.

Now for the most exciting bit. If you guys have been following me closely you would have known about my great love for these oddly-shaped bags. Part-laptop bag, part-gym duffle, the bad news is not all of them are making it into production. The good news? They are amazingly affordable and super durable, due largely in part to the fact that they’re made of cordura.

And that’s not all. I didn’t leave the press office empty-handed either. Stayed tuned to find out which F/W10 bag I got right now sitting in front of me after I give it a quick whirl around town tomorrow.
