Bagaholicboy Muses #190 – If The Shoe Fits…

May 8, 2010

It all happened yesterday…

I went down to ION Orchard for the Church’s presentation (they had flown in a master shoemaker to showcase Church’s craftsmanship), and while I was there, I also met up with Car Shoe’s Press Office Manager (who manages both Car Shoe and Church’s). And in case you didn’t already know, both Car Shoe and Church’s are under the Prada Group, and I was told ION Orchard was one of the few places in the world which houses all 4 brands from the group under one roof.

After the presentation ended, we proceeded down to Car Shoe (I had already expressed a keen interest in the brand in my first post in mid-April) to have a closer look. And things went downhill (for me anyway) from there…

Trying on pair after pair, each was more comfortable than the next. There’s something about the construction and those extra-large rubber nubs at the heel of the shoe that make that subtle difference. My brain stopped functioning, my heart took over, and at the end of it all I was the proud Dad of quadruplets.

The first pair (from top to bottom) I got was Scamosciato Delavé in Verde, or in simple layman language; green suede loafers. I think Mr Duck has a similar pair, and while I was contemplating this, the SA told me not to worry about it because it was suede, and the trick was just to ‘scotchgard’ the pair ever so often to keep it pristine.

The second pair was the Daino in Grigio (Grey), a pebbled leather loafer that’s also one of Car Shoe’s bestsellers. Had to get it.

Moving to the 3rd pair (and one of my favourites at the moment), the Nappa Aviator in Bleu (Blue) which comes with an extra fringe of leather on the top. I know how it may look ‘fuddy-duddy’, but putting it on that notion instantly disappeared. It is one of those dressier loafers that you can wear to a more demanding event and still get away with. Love!

And last but not least, the Antique Calf in Moro (Dark Brown), which also happens to be the stiffest leather they’ve got for Car Shoe loafers. I’m been told this model is also popular with those who want something more structured, and is also one that will not lose its shape easily.

So having decided to plonk down a small fortune for all 4 pairs, I decided I needed to get the matching shoe trees as well (SGD150 a pair), which can be placed within the shoe when not in use to maintain its shape. Truth is, I wanted to keep my babies as pristine for as long as possible, so this additional investment was certainly worth it in my opinion.

And if you’re keen on checking on Car Shoe for yourself, they are located at ION Orchard (between Miu Miu and YSL on Level 1). And while you’re there, look out for Mariona, Suzanna, Calvin or any of the other lovely SAs at Car Shoe. You won’t regret it.
