Bagaholicboy Muses #175 – The Big 5 Of Paris: A Goldheart Special

March 17, 2010

I’ve already done The Big 5 Of Milan, and now it’s time for my take on the The Big 5 Of Paris. And while this is a personal selection, 3 of the 5 listed here happen to be brands under LVMH. Coincidence? But of course! Still, let’s not get distracted from the post at hand.

The Look
First up, we’ve got Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Hermès collection and Jean Paul Gaultier’s 60s ode to Emma Peel (of The Avengers). Tight leather bodysuits, bowler hats and umbrellas were heavily referenced in the lineup that was sexy, stylish and oh-so-fun!

The Bags
My picks of the season are the Kelly pieces, an alligator version in bright orange (because it’s so bloody stunning) and a little suede and fur lined Kelly that comes with its own umbrella.

The Jewellery
A ring from Goldheart’s new Très Brune collection (SGD2668) that’s adorned with brown and white diamonds guaranteed to be an ice-breaker; quirky, fun and oh-so-lush!

The Look
A collection that has surprised many, the Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Louis Vuitton collection harks back to the days when women wore dresses and had breasts. Elegant and classy, it was dresses all the way. Still there were detractors who hated the ‘patronising’ collection and preferred the mad afros of S/S10. At the end of the day, because we all know there’s no pleasing everyone these days, Marc Jacobs simply took it to the other extreme.

The Bags
Most of the runway bags this season will almost certainly cost small fortunes considering the amount of exotic skins and leathers used on each, which is also why I decided to pick 2 bags that will be more wallet-friendly. First up, a Speedy with lovely black floral appliqué or silk-screen which I can’t really tell yet, and a simple all-leather frame bag with a simple logo at the side that comes in various colours and sizes.

The Jewellery
A pair of dangling diamond earrings (SGD3698) from Goldheart’s Mode collection, it’s as lady-like and feminine as it gets without sacrificing the ‘bling’ factor.

The Look
Perhaps the show of the season, the Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Chanel runway presentation was a sight to behold. Giant glaciers specially brought in just for the day and sent back the very next day. Because when it comes down to it, Karl Lagerfeld is as much a showman as he is a designer. I may not have understood the polar bear costumes much, but when the tweed and knitwear started appearing my world was in balance once again. Quintessentially Chanel, it was in my opinion the show of the season.

The Bags
The dip-dyed Classic Flap which I also adored, was an all-round hit with the critics, as well as the ‘ice’ box clutch trimmed with the diamante-encrusted logo and fake fur.

The Jewellery
The textured white gold pendant adorned with diamonds (SGD820) from Goldheart’s Mode collection takes centrestage; an ideal accessory to show off your stylishly cool personality.

The Look
Evoking an era past was the central theme of the Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Loewe collection, which had Stuart Vevers looking back at the ladies of Spanish cinema and old Hollywood (think Ava Gardner and Ernest Hemmingway). Sublime tailoring coupled with luxurious fur and feathers, the look is one of romantic grace and opulent sensuality.

The Bags
A sucker for classics, I adore the Amazona through and through and  my picks include the fire-engine red ostrich piece along with the two-toned leather variation with a fold-over clasp.

The Jewellery
Gentle spirals of rose gold and diamonds (SGD1576) celebrate the sensuality of women in this pair of earrings from Goldheart’s Mode collection that’s perfect for that special evening out.

The Look
Frankly my last pick would have been YSL if not for Phoebe Philo’s continued success with the Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Celine collection. After her much-lauded S/S10 collection, the woman who can seem to do no wrong is back with another collection that’s clean, sharp and uber-stylish.

The Bags
The bags are simple all-leather pieces adorned with a hint of hardware and not much else, again allowing the design and function to shine through instead. The pieces I like include a simple handbag on the left, and a larger portfolio clutch on the right.

The Jewellery
As simple as the clothes themselves, a piece of smoky quartz is set in a white gold ring adorned with a hint of diamonds (SGD592) , barely there yet strong, powerful and composed.
