Bagaholicboy Muses #174 – Of Cases And Covers…

March 15, 2010

While it’s been a long while since I posted anything on iPhone cases or covers, the growing number of emails in my inbox enquiring about these items has prompted me to do a more complete post. But before we proceed, I’ve a quick confession. Even though I own the iPhone myself, I’ve yet to get myself a case or cover, simply because I haven’t found the right one yet.

And when that day comes, you’ll be the first to know.

But back to the post at hand. The most popular of all cases has got to be the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas iPhone Case 3G. Why? Because it always seems to be sold out. Priced at SGD380, it also comes in Damier Graphite for the iPhone 3G.

From Hermès we’ve got the Hermès iPhone 3G Case in Swift calfskin (SGD480), a perforated case that makes your iPhone look really nice but doesn’t do much else. Like the ones from Louis Vuitton, you have to actually remove them from the case before you can actually take calls or send an SMS which can be such a hassle. Still, it’s pretty isn’t it?

Another case that was just released last year from the Mulberry + Apple collection was this; the Mulberry Bayswater Mini Messenger. Good for iPhone, iPod Touch and the like, it’s more a miniature sling bag than anything else to carry your iPhone around. Retailing for GBP150, it wasn’t made available in Singapore, so you’ll probably have to check out their online site to see if stocks are still available.

If however you require something more ‘glammed-up’, look out for Dolce & Gabbana’s version that will be released in the later half of 2010. From their Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Dolce & Gabbana collection, this is the perfect case to use when you’re out painting the town red.

We have covered cases so far, and now it’s time to move on to covers, which are basically snap-ons that protect the back of the iPhone. From Hong Kong’s Joyce comes this lovely set of 6 iPhone covers by different designers/brands including Anna Sui, Rick Owens, Marni, Dries Van Noten, Etro and Bless.

Not available for sale to the general public, it was meant to be a either a GWP or specially given to their VIP clients. Personally, I adore the ones by Rick Owen and Marni (shown above). Guess it’s time to trawl through eBay for them then.

Other designer covers I’ve found online include this one by Kate Spade that’s retailing for just USD29.95. Made of high-quality silicone, my only grouse is that it will probably only be available to those living in the States unless you use vPOST or Citibank’s Globeshopper.

Another one that’s more suited for the boys by Paul Frank, which also retails at Apple’s US online store for USD29.95. And if you guys have more suggestions for designer iPhone cases or covers, do send them to me via email and I’ll feature them in my next post.

There’s an iPhone cover by Hermès and it’s called “High-Tech”. LOL. What a horrendous name.

Anyway, at one point it was available at Hermes.com US site, but I heard it’s gone now. Might be worth checking again. Otherwise, you can browse tPF for pics. There were some screenshots uploaded by some members.

Personally, I still like the rubber protective casing from Incase. I don’t like these leather slots because you have to take the iPhone out. I want my iPhone to be protected also when I am using it.

i manage to get the iphone case from LV’s epi leather range, got the red one.

am trying to source for a nice one for my BB Bold. any recommendations?

  • coalshed says:

Balenciaga has one as well avilable in navy blue, cream, charcoal, and yellow. exactly the same format as the LV snd Hermes one where you slide you iPhone in. I have the yellow one and it’s pretty nice if a teeny bit loose. if you haven’t seen it I could send you some pics if you want BB.

  • freshmess says:

The Rick Owens one is creepy to touch! LOL.

  • KJ says:

How much is the Dolce & Gabbana’s case? It’s really glam. If only the Mulberry one has red, my GF is nuts about red!

  • Gotham says:

I used to own the standard LV monogram, but pulling it out constantly got tiresome.

I have seen one from marc by marc jacob which made of silicone. Its name is graved all over the back of the case and also it was given to club21′s thai customers for free.

  • coalshed says:

Yes BB that is the one. Very well priced at £110 considering it is all leather. The leather is combed to give it an almost lizard skin appearance but it has the feel of suede. It’s very nice.

  • tiffany says:

*beams* i’ve got the damier graphite one!

    • Damier Dork says:

Me too! I’ve had it for a year and love it. Wish there was a Damier Ebene version.

      • tiffany says:

you got it last march? we bought it in june and then not too much later, the SAs informed us there isn’t anymore iPhone cases. looks like its back in production?!

  • cindy says:

When I had an iPhone… it fit great in a multicolor wapity or mini ellipse when I went on vacation.

  • cindy says:

Bf took it since his first generation one he was using overseas was not doing well… mine is unlocked and he didn’t want to mess around with his newest model domestic one he also carries…. plus mine was for music and games anyway.

  • Peter says:

Jack Spade also has the Contour Monza iPhone cover (rubber). Too bad it’s only available in the US (I think).

Vuitton’s iPhone Case 3G has apparently hit our shores (SG that is) again. Limited stocks as usual. Price increase of SGD$5. Enquire with your nearest Vuitton SA soon if keen.

P/S: I got myself one in Damier Graphite.

  • Carly says:

I didn’t realise that LV made iPhone cases in Epi? I rang up customer service and they said it only comes in monogram and damier graphite. Can someone please confirm?

  • jjblinks says:

with the iphone 4g coming out … will the current cases fit it? BB … will you be able to advise and show more ranges of iphone cases?
