Update – Heritage Leather Co. 16″ Canvas Mason Bag

Having just received the parcel yesterday (thank you USPS and Speedpost), I hardly had enough time to properly use the Heritage Leather Co. 16″ Canvas Mason Bag, one of the 2 bags I ordered from Hickoree’s. Still, I did what I could, bringing it to dinner last night at Ember, as well as carrying it around the house all day (yes my Mother thinks I must be going mad).
First impression? It is not as big as it looks in the depicted image, but neither is it that small. Measuring 49 cm across at its base, and 34 cm high, it held an extra pair of jeans (don’t ask), my Pentax K-7 and other bits quite comfortably during dinner last night. Especially stunning, the gorgeous yellow leather base which comes embossed with the company logo and has 6 metal feet at the bottom to keep it clean.
I also love the secured steel frame mouth which ‘gapes’ wide open for easy access. It is unlined on the inside and comes with a long slot pocket at the side. It also comes with its own plywood base, ensuring the base never sags or go out of shape. Natural moccasin leather handles and buckle straps complete the look on this ruggedly handsome American bag.
There is however a slight drawback. Because it is 2/3 canvas, keeping it clean and stain-free can be a pain. My solution? I swear by Bally’s Aquastop, a canned spray that protects the canvas and hinders moisture and stains for around SGD23. Also, because of the solid plywood base and leather bottom it is slightly heavy even when empty, but really, it’s not really an issue because you’ll eventually gain those nice toned triceps.
So is it worth it to spend USD79 (around SGD112 before shipping) for a bag that can be used as a gym bag, at the beach or even as a casual weekend duffle? Most definitely! And click here to see a snapshot of my very own HLC bag!

Does the Aquastop leaves a glossy finish like coated canvas?
Of course not! It is to maintain and preserve, not to give it a coat of lacquer.
any idea how heavy the bag is, bb?

Hmm, I am not exactly sure of the weight, but I would say between 600 to 800 grams?
BB, How did d bag arrived? Was it in a box and a dustbag?
Box yes, but no dust bag. And the box is not from Heritage Leather Co. but some general cardboard box.

Hi Sven, the handle may look fragile but trust me, it’s really tough. I’ve got one myself so I can vouch for that.
I have this bag too and I love it! I can load it up with odds and ends when I’m going to class and it always gets looks. A lot of bag for the money!
