Spring-Summer 2010 Womens Miu Miu Ad Campaign

February 17, 2010   |   12 Comments

First off, that’s 15-year-old Lindsey Wixson fronting the Spring-Summer 2010 Womens Miu Miu ad campaign, no mean feat considering the fact that she is just, well, 15. Not only does she not look her age, she has legs that seem to go on forever.

Still, it’s a little disturbing from the standpoint that only pre-pubescent teenagers who have yet to grow a chest or hips are deemed suitable to sell clothes to women twice their age. Real women who unfortunately will never have bodies like hers in a million years, simply because they all experience puberty. Childbirth does not help either.

I have nothing against age, after all if Tavi can be 13 and be seated in the front row of Dior, why can’t a 15 year old front a major campaign? I just don’t like the underlying connotation that stick-thin teenagers make the best clothes hangers.

And now that I’m done ranting, did anyone notice the PS1/Alexa/Faithful hybrid in the first image? I’ll definitely be keeping tabs on that… and click here to check out the rest of the campaign images.

thanks for pointing that out BB, totally agree with you. tho i would never have guessed that the model’s only 15, i know people who can afford miu miu, and many other brands, are definitely older, and do NOT look like that.

  • Jole says:

Hmm.. the first bag looks a rip off of the oversized mulberry alexa with the lock and woven handles… with pleats. There’s an Alexa in a similar yellow tone too.

  • Bag Brag says:

While Miu Miu is targeted at younger women, teenagers in modeling is nothing new. The problem is, are we exploiting them for their youth or is our aging population so desperate to find for the fountain of youth?

  • Aud says:

she looks super anorexic! think if people really want to buy the bags, they’ll just buy, regardless of how the model looks like. It’s all about the BAG. Lol.

The ads are just for nice viewing!

  • The bag does look like a Mulberry Alexa hybrid! That’s the first thing I noticed when I saw the photo.

  • Greg says:

Hey it’s only an ad, a hyper-real take on the designer’s vision; a beautiful dream, which the average person on the street won’t take seriously.

well there’s always the debate over young kids being influenced by all these stick thin models and thinking that this is how they should look like. its something the fashion industry has always struggled with. but this is going overboard!

i recently saw an episode of Christiane Amanpour’s talkshow on CNN where she hosted joe zee and DVF on her show discussing this topic and also about retouching photos. one of the examples they used, if i remb correctly, was a Ralph Lauren ad where the girl had a super small waist which was inproportionate to her body. it was quite an interesting discussion.

    here’s some links!

but i think this ad is overdoing it. the girl’s legs look like. eeew. are they trying to sell the shoes or something?

PS1 and Alexa was the first thing that came into mind when I saw the first pic.

    • Terri says:

That was my first impression when I first saw them… my eternal flame for the OS Alexa is not going to die until I get my paws on one!

    Thank you for that.

  • Dun the bag on the first pic look like Alexa or PS1? It’s distorted beauty. Quite quirky, I do like the ads.

  • Kellystar says:

Yes, when I saw that bag, I instantly thought of PS1 and Alexa. There’s one available at Net-A-Porter now. I still prefer the Alexa over all of them.
