Bagaholicboy Profiles #15 – Using Apple Brand Leather Care

posted in Bagaholicboy Profiles, Odds And Ends on May 31, 2009   |   13 Comments

Many of you have written to me asking me what’s the best way to care for your Balenciaga bags and SLGs. While I do not know the absolute best way, this is the way I subscribe to. All you need is a bottle of Apple Brand Leather Care and 2 pieces of clean cloth.

Just follow the easy step-by-step guide:
01. Shake the bottle hard.
02. Pour small blobs onto leather.
03. Use cloth and do small swirls on leather. Some people use more, others less. It is really up to you.
04. Once the lotion is absorbed, flip over and do same.
05. Once everything is done, leave for a few hours. Then use the other cloth to buff and shine.
06. Do the same for the handles, but avoid the threads under the handles.
07. Also keep the lotion away from fabric along zipper because it may stain it.

There is a ‘downside’ to using Apple Brand Leather Care though. If you like your bags and SLGs ‘distressed’, do not use it. The lotion actually makes the leather ’smoother’ and slightly more ’smooshy’. I’ve tried it on both my Weekender and RH Coin Purse and I’m more than happy with the outcome.

You can order Apple Brand products online here, but the more convienent way if you are in Singapore is to just get it from Interesthing Shop, where it sells a bottle for SGD30. Thanks again to reader P.C for all your tips and help!

  • From The Bagaholicboy That Hails From Singapore says:

Hi Elaine, this brand is best prescribed for Balenciaga and most leather bags from Louis Vuitton.

For Gucci best you check with their respective SA.

Hi Lynette, Interesting Shop is at The Adelphi.

Ricardo, Mulberry recommends Collonil for their leather products. You can either buy it from the boutique or check out the website here.

Hi all I can concur with BB the apple care works really well on Balenciaga Bags. I find that if you buff with a microfibre cloth it brings back most of the shine. I have also used it on a on a Commes des Garcons leather coin pouch which was a bit on the dry side and it came up beautifully. For full grain leathers I prefer to use Collonil Ultra Cream in neutral. Firstly you spray with collonil Waterstop let it fry then apply the cream, as little or as much as you need. Let it dry then buff off the excess. I use it on all my full grain leathers bags, such as my Prada deerskins and Burberry Large Satchel Holdall. The best bit is that it takes away most of the marks and scratches from everyday use and makes the leather so soft and supple. I should note that sometimes after a while u will find a small bit of residue on the leather, this just means that you used too much of the cream initially and all you have to do is buff it again and it comes up perfectly again.

Just my two cents worth. By the way you do such an awesome job BB

Hey PP, thanks for your input. I will be the first to admit I do not know everything about the leather care, so it’s always good that readers (like you) chime in and help me out.

Ladysilver, do check with the respective SAs for Chanel and Miu Miu… better to be safe than sorry!

  • From The Bagaholicboy That Hails From Singapore says:

Hi Anon, it only works when it is applied to the bag when it is brand new, to protect the bag. For stain removals do drop me an email.
