10 Essentials: Mervyn Chan
1. I’ve been buying Comme des Garçons shirts for years and I like their roomy yet slightly fitted cut, which remains constant throughout collections. They are the mainstay of my wardrobe with whites making up the bulk. I look out for interesting details and collaborative efforts such as this one with Visvim.

2. This was my Christmas present to myself last year (Hermès Collier de Chien Bracelet in Etoupe) and it has proved to be one of the best buys of 2008. The colour is very versatile and the generous, shiny hardware dresses up any outfit.

3. After giving up my old beat-up Mini Monogram travel bag, I wanted a classic piece I would use for years. What better than to get the Louis Vuitton Mon Monogram Keepall and personalise it with my initials?

4. Since I already own two 50 cm Birkins, I wanted one which I could use on a daily basis; something more handy and streamlined. When I got the call the Hermès 40cm Birkin in Curry Clemence had come in I jumped at the chance to bag it.

5. I am a huge fan of Converse sneakers because their shape is so basic and classic. They go with almost anything, from the most casual ensemble to even a suit. I have more than 50 pairs and this is my favourite. The madras print on this Junya Watanabe collaboration sneaker is timeless.

6. Since owning two models prior to this, I’ve always been very impressed with the make of Vertu phones. I upgraded to this model (Vertu Ascent Ti) to keep with the times, considering that the older models I had didn’t even feature a camera. The concierge service is also great bonus.

7. Not born with a porcelain mien, my SK-II Facial Treatment Essence helps to regenerate, clarify and soothe my skin. After using it for many years, I cannot imagine living without it.

8. A must-have for anyone living in a tropical climate, the Bioderma Photoderm Sunscreen is one of the most photostable (UVA40) in the market right now. This means that the active ingredients remain stable for longer so that I’m actually protected from the harmful UVA rays while other sunscreens disintegrate after awhile, leaving you barely covered.

9. I blew an exorbitant sum on my first set of Frette bedlinen, which I use only when I want to truly pamper myself. By getting them in a classic cream colour, I can mix them with my lesser bedding items, so I can enjoy the luxurious egyptian cotton/silk blends for longer.

10. I’m a fan of all things Japanese and my choice of magazines are no exception, especially when it comes to fashion. Although I cannot understand the language, the content in the Japanese edition of Vogue is always ahead of its counterparts and the design of its editorial spreads is an art in itself.
