Bagaholicboy News #76 – Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation

I first read about this on WWD, but because it is so long, I am going to do my best to condense it. In a nutshell, Louis Vuitton is constructing a permanent Frank Gehry-designed art foundation in Paris (shown above is the scale model which will also be on display at the exhibition). And because Asia is one of LVMH’s biggest markets we are getting a preview of some of its treasures with an exhibition in Hong Kong.

Called ‘Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation‘, it is slated to run from 22 May 2009 to 9 August 2009 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art. It will recount the French luxury firm’s long association with the art world, from the Art Deco designers who collaborated with the founder’s grandson on trunks to more recent hook-ups on leather goods with contemporary art stars such as Takashi Murakami (shown above, ‘Eye Love Superflat’) and Richard Prince.

Selections from Louis Vuitton’s permanent collection also will be on display, including large-scale works by the likes of Jeff Koons (shown above, ‘Monkey Train’), Andreas Gursky, Pierre Huyghe, Gilbert & George and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Hey there!
I just wanted to say I’ve been a fan of your blog for over a year now. You’ve actually inspired me to start one about my obsession with the man bag: http://missiontomurse.blogspot.com/
My site’s just getting started and my personal collection’s still growing, but I hope to get as many up on the site for other “bagaholics” to enjoy.
Keep up the great work!
will there be a special boutique set up to sell the special items like they did in LA?
It will look so adorable!
VY
Hi Cram congrats on your new blog!
VY, if only they did I will fly up in a heartbeat, but so far I have not heard or received any news on this…
Dear BB, want to thank you for the first hand LV news.. I totally adore your blog, needless to say… and it’s a must for me to visit daily… Went to take a look at latest collection beach for LV. I still think last year’s tahitiennes looks better with the bigger prints. Just hard to maintain. I have to retire mine after I got my Damier Neverfull on a work trip in Japan. =(
Regarding the HK exhibition, was thinking, readers n everyone can even organise a tour just to hit the store in HK if they are selling the special items there. =)
Only down side.. I won’t be around during that period. I will be in NYC for the entire June and July. What else shld i get from NYC? I am planning to bag as many Marc by Marc Jacob special items as my wallet can pay out. =)
Will balenciaga be much cheaper in NYC?
Lastly, Lesportsac snack sac is out of stock.. unbelievable… =(
Have a fabulous long weekend.
Cheers,
Valerie
