Ask The Bagaholicboy #87 – A Leather Case For My iPhone And Other Bits
Q: Hi Bagaholicboy! I just want to wish you a happy CNY and thank you so much for all your updates, information and tips. I am addicted to you and check your blog at least twice a day! My question is this. I would like to get a leather case for my new Apple iPhone 3G, and I know Louis Vuitton has some but I don’t like monograms much. Can you recommend me something suitable that’s bright and costs not more than SGD500?
Alicia Lim
A: Dear Alicia, thank you so much for your kind comments, I really appreciate it. Now on to your query. Frankly I don’t keep tabs on accessories from many brands, so I was afraid I could not be of help. Thankfully I remembered seeing something from the Spring-Summer 2009 Womens Hermès press kit and went through it again.
May I present the Hermès iPhone 3G Case in Swift calfskin. In case you are wondering, Swift is one of the leathers Hermes employs to craft their bags and accessories. The best thing about Swift? It is known to be buttery-soft and yet stands up well against light scuffs and scratches.
Nothing says Hermès more than the colour Orange, and because you wanted something ‘bright’, this could be a good option for you (no monograms or logos either). Best thing, it retails for SGD480, which is well within your budget. Good luck on your quest and do let me know if you decide to go with this.
Love, Bagaholicboy
And other bits:
1. Justin, do check with the boutique you bought from for the best advice on caring for your bag, very often they have care booklets on hand for you and/or sell creams and oils that are best suited for the leather.
2. Claire, I have emailed Net-A-Porter about the VAT query, hopefully they will reply to me soon and I will get back to you.
3. Zac, if you like monograms do check out Louis Vuitton for passport covers, available in Monogram Canvas and Damier Ebene for SGD400 each.
4. Lyn Joseph, for J.Fold do check out this link, and I hope you find what you are looking for.
5. Yunlin, if it is a work bag you need, definitely get the Coffer over the Bayswater. In Black. Unless you have to bring work home, then the Bayswater for files and papers.
6. Lynn, the image of the wallet you emailed me from Prada ain’t very clear, but I am guessing it is an old model and no longer available in boutiques.
7. Ken, the Jack Spade Grain Leather Captain Tote retails for SGD710 in Singapore. Not bad at all, considering it is all-leather. Do get it if you are intending to use it for work.

Hi BB, has this iPhone cover from Hermes been available in Singapore yet?
My problem with most if not all luxury iPhone cases is that they don’t come in an open-faced design, so you have to shove the phone in and out. Vaja makes some great bespoke Spanish leather cases for the iPhone – I bought my fiance the open-faced one and he loves it!
